Nogu Svelo to record indecent songs
-
"Nogu Svelo" have finished recording songs for their two new albums.
One of them, "Happy because I am pregnant" is now being mastered.
A tentative date of release - next February. The musicians still haven't
decided which label they will go with. It turns out that the band
is seriously considering recording a whole album of indecent songs.
Apparently, there's no lack of such material in NS's repertoir.

NOM presents new album.
-
St.Petersburg band NOM (Informal Youth Union) presented their
new album "Vo imja razuma" (For the sake of common sense) at "Ne bei
kopytom" club. This presentation was also a celebration of the club's
3d annivesary. Theoretically, the party was "closed", that is
only journalists and friends were supposed to be admitted, but some
confusion at the entrance resulted in free admission for everyone
who happened to be there. Moreover, the guests could entertain
themselves with free snacks while waiting for the press conference..
Eventually, NOM appeared at 22:00 and played some new songs,
some old songs, all followed by a theater performance featuring
light and sound effects, dialogs, fights and so on.

Halloween at Planet Hollywood.
Hallowing celebration at the "Planet Hollywood" restaraunt
featured live performances of Dva Samaliota and
Bravo. Dva Samaliota played for about 40 minutes
- most songs were from their latest album "Bees and Honey",
with a few unknown/new extras (such as "Cosmic Pederasts" not
featured on any album).
As Anton Belyankin told Intermedia's journalist,
they basically played for friends. Says Anton : "We knew about 20%
of the people in the audience, so we were just playing
what they liked".
Vadim Pokrovsky (vocalist) intimated that the band had been
celebrating Halloween for about 5 years.

Nogu Svelo premiers new program.
One of the most popular Moscow bands "Nogu Svelo!"
(Cramp in the Leg) presented their new program which
they called "moscow romance". The presentation included a
press-conference and a concert. Max Pokrovskii
said that their new album, "Happy because I am pregnant"
(which is about to be released at the end of this year)
would include a few unusually wistful songs. The concert
part was fun, as usual, with old hits like "Bald Girl"
mixed with some of the new songs.

great disappointment for several hundred people.

invited Tequillajazzz to help them out
with the instrumental parts. Coincidentally
or , may be, exactly because of that fact, the
sound promises to be "much heavier and harsher"
(E.Yudanova). The group wouldn't disclose the title
of the album.

September 14, 1996 ---- Kvachi - model'ery.
On Tuesday (sep,17) there will be a strange presentation
of the "Haute Couture ot Kvachei" collection, followed
by a live show of the same group (officially
named "Time-Out"). All these things are going to take
place at Manhattan Express night club (Moscow).
When asked if musicians will be acting like mannequins,
Erkin Tuzmukhamedov (the manager of the band) said
"No. The guys will be playing. I'll be wearing those clothes".
Still, he admitted he would need someone to help him
demonstrate a part of the collection designed
specifically for women..
This isn't it for "Time-Out", though. Starting
Sep,18 through Sep,23 Pavel Molchanov (T.O.)
will be displaying his paintings. Those could be

August 30, 1996 ---- Kolibri again.
Kolibri performed at a film festival in
Vyborg (near St.Petersburg) which took place during
the past week. The event (festival) was pretty much
like a social gathering of film/TV/musical personalities.
Among the participants and guests were : a well known composer
Dashkevich (soundtrack for the legendary "Sherlock
Holmes"), jazzman Alexander Kozlov, actor Sadal'skyi
("kothelek, kothelek - kakoi kothelek ?" : mesto vstrechi izmenit'
nel'zja), film director Sivilia and others. For some reason,
only three of Kolibri were on stage (the total
number of members of the band is four).

July 2, 1996 ---- Dva Samoleta for kids.
Dva Samoleta have recorded two songs for "Ulitca Sezam"
- a TV program for children. Surprisingly, they didn't
sing in Swahili (or whatever it is) - all texts were Russian
(although not written by DS). The result was so great
that they decided to record a whole CD of songs for children.
RDM (one of the biggest recording companies in Russia) representatives
said they'd be very interested in releasing such an album.

June 24, 1996 ---- Max Pokrovsky and his "new" car.
Max Pokrovsky, the leader of "Nogu Svelo" has recently
bought a car from Anton Yakomul'sky, the drummer of the
same band. The 1981 VolksWagen - "Passat" (which has a nickname
"murdered")
was bought to keep Max from commuting on subway. "I hate subway"-
said Max. "As the time goes we write new songs, but people in
subway don't change. Of course, I like people, but I also hate
when my guitar is being kicked in the crowd."

May 19, 1996 ---- Dzhem change their line-up
St.Petersburg indie-pop band Dzhem has changed 50%
of their line-up. Although the guitarist's position is
still available, chances are it will be taken by a well-known
guitarist Vitalik (ex-Never Trust Hippie,
also of S.P.O.R.T.). Saxophonist Boris Gernstein
has decided to pursue a non-musical career. The third
person to leave was keyboardist Volodya.

March 31, 1996 ---- Agata Christie's new album
A.C. have released a CD entitled
"Agatha Christie : 5 years". Such a title kind of suggests
that it features their best hits recorded during this period. However,
it appears to be a LIVE album recorded on Feb 20, 1993
in Ekaterinburg... So, don't get confused.

According to informed sources, Nora club (St.Petersburg) has

Samoleta seem to have problems with renting the space.
The good news is that they are going to open another
club shortly. The new one will be named "Griboedov"
which may be treated quite ambigously. (Remember Kuryokhin's
theories ?)

January, 3 1996 ----- Jugendshtil : first compilation.
The first compilation of this St.Petersburg band is now
available (unfortunately, only on cassettes) for general
public.
The album named simply "Jugendshtil" includes songs dated back
1990-1993
thus pretending to be the first milestone of the band's
history. All songs (inspite of when they were actually
composed) have been recorded just recently, so it might be
interesting to check out new versions of old hits.
Overall, as Leonid Fomin ("RockFuzz") said, this album
closes the first wave of Piter's "indie" music in general,
and so-called "TamTam Generation" in particular... As any
historically significant thing, it's probably worth checking out.
